— Lao Tzu
Lao-Tzu b. 6th century BC - China
Lao-Tzu was a philosopher and poet in ancient China. Considered the father of Chinese Taoism, he is the reputed author of the Tao Te Ching, the main text of Taoist thought. Like other ancient Chinese philosophers, he explains his ideas by way of contradiction, analogy, appropriation of ancient sayings, repetition, symmetry, and rhythm. According to Tao Te Ching, the Tao is the mystical source and ideal of all existence - it is unseen, not transcendent, but immensely powerful yet supremely humble, and the root of all things.
